  chamantChamant

This town of about 1000 inhabitants has a Neolithic or Celtic covered alley, excavated in the 19th century (private property). The Brunehaut roadway crosses the commune from South to North along the hamlet of Balagny-sur-l'Aunette, to the north of the administrative centre, with a small church devoted to Saint Foy, dating back in part to 12th century. Opposite there is the beautiful farm gate acting as a dovecote. As for the Chamant Notre-Dame church, it is its bell of the end of the 12th century, which makes it famous.

The interior is in the troubadour or neogothic style, of the 19th century and includes the tomb of the wife of Lucien Bonaparte, owner of the castle of Plessis-Chamant, another hamlet to the west of the village, now destroyed.

Plessis-Chamant was the estate of the bailiffs of Senlis, whose  Rasse de Saint-Simon family will go down in history with the "Memoires" of the court  at the time of Louis XIV. But locally there is Lord Rasse who has left mixed memories. Bailiff, but also fanatical member of the Catholic league in revolt against Henri IV, he was arrested by Montmorency-Thoré, his assets confiscated and his residence razed.

In Chamant, on the edge of the modern housing developments, there is a small memorial at the site where the mayor of Senlis and several hostages were executed by the Germans in 1914.

The Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours Chapel, founded in 1624 and to a large extent restored between 1894 and 1895, considered as belonging to Senlis, is in reality located on Chamant territory.
